NCRIB targets professional integrity among members
Determined to push for further professionalism and good ethical conduct among members in line with global regulatory requirements and operational standards, Ayodapo Shoderu, the newly elected president of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), says the key plank of his administration would be building institution of people and profession that would be respected.
Shoderu who disclosed this during an interview said that the council was committed to developing professionalism in the industry, promising his administration would strengthen the understanding and mentality of its members into certain realities concerning the practice of the insurance broking profession.
“As part of our efforts to develop the sector, we would also be pulling together talents and formidable credentials needed by organisations to go places,” he said.
The NCRIB boss said that this was important because the practice of the profession must be done with dignity and by people of unshaken integrity.
He said that NCRIB would ensure that the profession only consists of men and women with realistic intention to practice.
Shoderu also disclosed that the Council will create an effective data system bureau for the storage of comprehensive and relevant data about insurance broking. He worried that it was easier to assess the extent of growth and development of Nigerian insurance industry, through foreign bodies or institutions.
To reverse this trend, he said that a research and development committee would be established to facilitate the vision of generating accurate data for the sector locally.
Shoderu also said that in view of the growing expectations from insurance broking professionals due to unfolding financial regulatory requirements, the council would establish the accounting technical committee, made up of existing and co-opted accounting and finance professionals that will handle issues relating to financial reporting requirements from members.
