NIA former DG promises support for industry in new capacity
Sunday Thomas, former director general of the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) and the current deputy commissioner for Insurance, National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has promised to give the industry the necessary support within his reach to bring growth and development.
Thomas, who made the promise during a send-forth dinner organized by the NIA to appreciate and thank him for his contribution to the industry in his seven years reign as the director general of the market association. Thomas who served the Association meritoriously as Director-General from May 2010 to April 2017.
He said the industry will be better than how he made it during his stay in the NAICOM, urging the players to cooperate with the regulator to develop the industry. “If you receive policy circulars, don’t bother who signed it but try to understand the content”, Thomas advised.
Eddie Efekoha, chairman of the NIA in his speech at the dinner attended by chief executive officers in the industry, said the evening was to celebrate, honour and appreciate Thomas for the excellent job he did during his seven year tenure at the Association. “You will all attest to the fact that he left the Association better than he met it.”
“Thomas has left indelible footprints in the annals of the Association and it is our hope that the same zeal, strength of character, determination and sense of service which he brought to bear whilst at the NIA will be deployed in his new office. We know that he has the Association in his thoughts and prayers. Sometime in the near future, he will look back and be proud that we crossed paths.”
“On behalf of the Governing Council and the entire membership of the Association thank him for the time and energy he invested in the Association and use this opportunity to tell him that we will continue to draw from his reservoir of knowledge and experience in moving the Association forward.”
