RIMSON sees emerging risks in engineering projects, facilities

Large engineering facilities and projects are confronted with several man-made, operational and natural risks such as collapse, fire, flood, abandonment, delayed completion and the likes, while in terms of property damage are loss of lives, business interruption and non-realisation of project goals and objectives.

The reoccurrence of these incidents however has become a source of concern to risk managers, who have therefore advised that operators and government must take strategic action in managing these risks.

One of the strategic actions the risk managers noted include investment in training and retraining of personnel engaged in the construction/engineering industry. Amongst them include engineers, builders, contractors, safety managers, construction officers, risk managers, analysts, compliance/quality control managers, insurance practitioners, officials of government parastatals and oil and gas workers.

Risk and Insurance Managers Society of Nigeria (RIMSON) in this vein is organising a 2-Day course on Risk Management in Engineering Facilities and Projects billed for June 27th and 28th, at NECA House, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

Cyprian N. Emenyonu, registrar, RIMSON, said that the course will provide the platform for the industry experts and professionals to brainstorm on and understand the importance of risk management in the construction and operation of engineering facilities and projects.

Such risk exposures will be identified with a view to proffering appropriate risk control measures to safeguard the investments. The main topic of the course he said, is broken into sub-topics to be facilitated by highly experienced engineering and certified risk management experts

like Jacob Adeosun of Industrial Risks Protection Consultants, Mike Udonquak, an engineering and managing director, Global Risk Consulting, Akintola Akintayo, general secretary of Ikeja Branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and CEO of Dynamic Initiatives Limited among others.
