Sefiya Sadiki emerges new Miss Insurance
Sefiya Sadik, staff of Standard Alliance Insurance plc has emerged the new Miss Insurance for 2013, having beaten other twelve contestants in a contest of intellectual and dancing show over the weekend.
This victory means she will fly the flag of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) in the capacity of the industry Queen for the next one year. She won a Kia Pincanto, while first and second runners-up, Tolutope Ogunkoya of AIICO Insurance plc, and Oluwayemisi Cole of Anchor Insurance Limited got other prices.
Wole Adetimehin, the CIIN president, said Miss Insurance Dance has become veritable platform for social interaction among insurance practitioners, and also an opportunity to attract more women into the business. He said the standard of the competition had been sustained with the Star Prize of KIA Pinncato Car donated by UnityKapital Insurance plc.
The President said that the prizes of Plasma TV and Home Theatre for the first and second runners-up were donated by Standard Alliance Insurance plc, and African Alliance Insurance Ltd, respectively.
According to him, for Miss Insurance Dance all the contestants are winners but one person has to be the queen for the year. He also thanked the operators for their continued sponsoring of the institute’s programme in spite of the harsh business environment.
Mr Sikiru Oyesefo, the CIIN chairman Activities Committee, urged the operators to unwind as all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
Meanwhile, Sam Adegboyega, chairman, Board of Directors, Jully and Partners Insurance Brokers (JP) who was chairman and guest speaker at the event said the various disasters and fire outbreaks across the country has increased the growing need for insurance.
Adegboyega said people should make taking up insurance policies number one in their lists of priorities.
“Doing this will ensure that they get succour when the risk they insured against happens.
“The industry has changed following strict regulations after the recapitalisation and reform exercises.
“Paying claims now and promptly too has become the selling points for insurance products among the operators,” he said.
Adegoyega also commended the institute for sustaining Miss Insurance Dance all these years with its objective of celebrating beauty and brain.
He said that in addition to celebrating beauty and brain, the dance was being used as tool for achieving insurance awareness among the populace.
