SIFAX boss wants maritime workers to collaborate with stakeholders

Taiwo Afolabi, the Group executive vice chairman of SIFAX Group, has urged the newly elected president-general of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Adewale Adeyanju, to make stakeholder engagement a critical strategy.

In a congratulatory message sent to Adeyanju and his new executive team, Afolabi, who described Adeyanju as a thorough bred professional, advised him to engage stakeholders like the shipping lines, terminal operators, government regulatory agencies, and the press, among others.

According to him, collaboration is necessary to engender understanding which is the bedrock of harmony and development. “The maritime industry in Nigeria needs to explore the strength that comes from constant stakeholder engagement and promotion of better understanding that will improve workers’ welfare. Harmony is necessary for the industry to realise its potentials and contribute to the nation’s economy.

He further noted that the key to making the maritime sector a major revenue earner for the government is by promoting good welfare for all workers in the maritime sector.  “We believe that the new executives will seek to advance the interests of its members and stakeholders.”

He however pledged that SIFAX Group will continue to support the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria and other labour unions due to the critical roles play in the sector.

Afolabi further challenged the executives of MWUN to come up with workers-oriented ideas and programmes that could further improve the fortune of the industry, This way, Afolabi said, the impact of the association would be quickly felt.
