C & I leasing ‘take a girl student to work’ project

C&I Leasing Plc in partnership with the South African High Commission recently engaged ten female students across different department from the University of Lagos under the “Take a girl student to work” project’.

The project, which was initiated by South African High Commission in Nigeria, is an annual corporate social investment event and a constructive way of positively contributing to the global efforts to address challenges faced by young women, particularly African women and the girl-child.

Emmanuel Timothy, Human resource manager, C & I Leasing Plc while speaking about this laudable initiative said the company is happy to be part of the project because it will afford it the opportunity to ensure that the students are trained to imbibe the culture of integrity and hardwork that would help build organisations in particular and the nation in general.

Timothy disclosed that the value of integrity is lacking in Nigeria today, stressing the need for students to understand that hardwork pays. 

According to him, “Through this programme, we have being able to imbibe the culture of hardwork in these students by letting them know that value is created through the process of hardwork”

“If you look at our core value system, we prioritise fairness; integrity and hard work, we need to know that for us to move on, in life, there is the need to make the above values part of our lives and lifestyles” he said.

Timothy further pointed out that sustaining an initiative like this requires Universities incorporating in their curriculum values that would enhance whatever corporate organisations are doing through this ‘take a girl student to work’ initiative.

Ogundele Oluwabukola, 400 level Business Administration students University of Lagos who was assigned to the outsourcing unit of the company disclosed that the knowledge she acquired during the work exposure programme is of much value and she would  share such when she gets back to school.

According to her, “working under the outsourcing unit where I have learnt what outsourcing means and how the C &I leasing plc manages staff for companies have being wonderful. 

She revealed that having to work in the company is a whole new world different from the theoretical learning she is accustomed to in the University. 

On her part, Adedeji Omotayo, 400 level student of the department of English posted to the Human resources department of the company applauds the take a girl student to work and the involvement C and I leasing stressing that her participation in the programme has opened a new real world learning opportunity to her.
