Creating a pool of talented knowledge managers
As part of its strategic contribution to the development of a virile network of young talented research managers, Lagos Business School recently organised its maiden edition of Young Talent Programme (YTP).
The programme according the organiser is aimed at building a relationship with budding talents in or out of the university including M.Sc holders and corps members with a first-class or second-class honours degree.
Enase Okonedo, Dean, Lagos Business School disclosed that as an organisation that wants to do a lot of things in the field of management education in Nigeria, engaging young talents through programmes like this would help the school actualise the mission of developing managers for Nigeria, Africa and the world at large.
Okonedo observed that a lot of young talents don’t consider a career in a business school as very glamorous perhaps because they truly have not understood what it entails, a notion that the young talent programme was designed to achieve.
“We are always looking for people that can contribute and work with us. Hopefully the whole idea is to begin a relationship with these talents which may translate into most of them developing into competent managers for Nigeria, Africa and the world at large. She said.
The Dean further highlights that by continually upgrading and up scaling its curriculum to meet global best practice; the management of LBS has ensured the practicability of the teaching impacts on the students.
“LBS aims to positively influence the practice of management in Africa and the world at large”, she maintained.
Albert Alos, professor Emeritus, LBS/Pan Atlantic University, revealed that LBS had maintained its focus amidst varying challenges over time and its vision to remain a bastion of quality management education now and in the future.
Alos in addressing the issue of skills gap in the country insists that Tertiary institutions in their approach to teaching and training must keep in touch with the demands of industries.
On his part, Uchenna Uzo, academic director young talent programme and Lecturer of Marketing, Lagos Business School said the idea behind the programme is to discover the brightest talents in Nigeria who could partner with LBS to build a career in research in management.
According to him, “We want to use this as a channel to start a relationship with them which we hope to continue. The idea is to engage with these young talents by so doing make sure they become part of LBS either as students or member of faculty.
