ICAN to construct 5 lecture theatres in selected tertiary institutions

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) is constructing five lecture theatres in selected tertiary Institutions across the country.

This move according to the President of the body is to strengthen its public interest mandate and to encourage the production of highly skilled Accounting graduates.

Chidi Onyeukwu Ajaegbu, the 50th president of the institute, while speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, explained that the project is aimed at supporting the aspirations of the students and creating conducive atmosphere for learning with a view to producing highly skilled graduates in Nigerian universities.

The ICAN President further disclosed that each of the selected institutions will provide a parcel of land on which the Lecture Theatre will be built as the Institute desires to accomplish the project within the next one year.

In his own remarks, Idowu Bamitale Omole, the vice chancellor of OAU, posited that ICAN’s gesture has complemented the vision of the Institution, expressing gratitude of the school’s Governing Council to ICAN.

Speaking further, the Vice Chancellor eulogised ICAN as the foremost professional body in Nigeria when it comes to turning out professional accountants who know their onions and are capable of competing with their counterparts anywhere in the world.  

The five universities that will benefit from this gesture are: Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; University of Benin, Benin City; University of Nigeria, Nsukka and Kebbi State University of Science and Technology.
