Imperial College Alumni in Nigeria lauds deserving members
In recent times, a good number of Nigerian graduates of Imperial College, London, have made the college and indeed its alumni association in Nigeria very proud to identify with them. Their contributions and achievements in the business, economic, social and public life in Nigeria is indeed worthy of celebration.
Olugbenga Adelana, President, Imperial College Alumni of Nigeria in a press statement disclosed that the year 2014 has been a year of elevation and distinction for three alumni of Imperial College in their various callings and as such the Imperial College Alumni Association of Nigeria deems it fit to celebrate their achievements.
Adelana in the statement congratulated Uzoma Dozie, a 1998 Master of Business Administration graduate of Imperial College Business School whose over 18-years’ experience in the Nigerian banking sector culminated in his appointment as Group Managing Director of Diamond Bank Plc in October this year.
According to him, Uzoma to has hitherto been the chief driver of Diamond Bank’s award winning retail banking franchise and technology based innovative banking solutions; quietly building on the Diamond Bank Integrated Banking Solutions pioneered by his father and founder of the bank. The alumni association is indeed happy to associate with Dozie in his strides towards making his “Diamond heritage” last forever.
He further disclosed that in June this year also, George Osahon a notable alumni of Imperial College and former President of Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE),was appointed as the substantive Director of the Department of Petroleum Resources, the apex regulatory, policy and administrative agency of the Nigerian Government for the Oil and Gas sector.
Osahon in his words is a 1981 M.Sc., graduate of Petroleum Geology from Imperial College, London. His appointment follows after many such petroleum sector achievements that Imperial College graduates in Nigeria have attained over years. However, Osahon’s contribution to local content development in the Oil and Gas sector as the first Group General Manager of NNPC’s Local Content Department gives us joy as fellow graduates of his alma-mater.
The late Stella Adadevoh comes next in recognition of achievements of Imperial College alumni in Nigeria. Adadevoh, a I993 graduate of Imperial College Hammersmith Hospital Medical School, was recently venerated as the epitome of selflessness and professionalism in the delivery of healthcare service in Nigeria. When the Ebola scare broke out in Nigeria, Stella’s show of compassion and humanity towards a sick foreigner in her care marks her out as a modern day Florence Nightingale. Even though Stella is no longer with us, memories of her selfless service to humanity will forever linger in our memories.
We are most happy to associate with this Heroine of the ”Ebola war” in Nigeria.
“The Imperial College Alumni Association of Nigeria, as a virile fellowship of graduates of Imperial College in Nigeria will continue to celebrate our galaxy of stars in all spheres of life home and abroad”.
“This is with a view to encourage up and coming graduates of the college to take pride in contributing their knowledge, exposure and experience to the development and prosperity of our dear nation Nigeria”, he said.
