Implementation gaps identified in institution’s research policy
Call has been made for the immediate implementation of research policy, protection of intellectual property and a provision of central laboratory manned by a chief technologist at Yaba college of Technology.
Adeleke Atanda Abiodun, Lecturer and keynote speaker at the 6th Inaugural Lecture Yaba College of Technology made this call while presenting his paper on ‘Science: Towards a Clean, Sustainable and Developed Environment.’
According to Abiodun “There should be maintenance of our incubator centre, by providing adequate and necessary infrastructure and necessary infrastructure and equipment to make the centre function properly, for now it is not functioning at all.”
He added that commercialisation of research and development outputs inventions should be accorded the support desired and incentives.
Abiodun also called on the government to promote the integration of environmental concern in all development policies and ensure public understanding of scientific basis of their actions on the environment, adding that there is a need to develop an appropriate and effective waste management.
“The campaign on tree planting must not ignored as well as burning of bush and felling of trees and indiscriminate disposal of waste should be checked to reduce the havoc caused by flood,” he noted.
He projected that techno-entrepreneurship is key to enhance industry competitiveness, combat dumping and develop national technological capabilities in various fields and reiterated the need to improve poor state of research industry linkage and fast-track commercialisation of research and development outputs.
