Learn Africa lauds NECO over 2014 SSCE results
Olusegun Oladipo, Managing Director of Learn Africa Plc, has commended the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the candidates that sat for the June/July 2014 Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (SSCE), on the great success recorded in the examinations, with results showing, among other things, 72.58 percent credit pass in English Language and 69.49 percent credit pass in Mathematics. This is, no doubt, a remarkable improvement on last year’s results.
Oladipo noted that as a leading educational book publisher that is strongly committed to the human capital development of the country through consistent and timely provision of effective learning resources, the publishing firm takes great pride in aligning and identifying itself with this success.
According to him, “There is no iota of doubt in our mind that our New Concept English and New Concept Mathematics, books that have been generally adjudged to be top notch in terms of content and pedagogical adequacy as well as production quality, have contributed immensely to this success”,
It is also heart-warming to note that only 0.44 percent of the candidates that sat for the examinations were involved in any form of malpractice; this is a clear testimony that NECO is winning the war against this monster.
In line with its corporate policy of promoting academic excellence, Learn Africa is just about concluding arrangements to hold this year’s edition of the Learn Africa-NECO Excellence Awards to appreciate and celebrate outstanding NECO candidates, their teachers and the schools that produced them in all states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
It is its utmost conviction that the gesture will also serve to encourage other to students to aspire for academic excellence and seek for success legitimately. It, therefore, advise candidates and schools to be on the look-out for the announcement of the 2014 award winners.
“On our part, we promise to continue to introduce relevant new titles and re-align our current publications to keep pace with the dynamics of the educational system. We will also not relent in our teacher-support drive by organising regular training programmes across the nation in order to improve their effectiveness.
“We would like to seize this opportunity to advocate for a significant increase in government’s budgetary allocation for education so as to address the deficiencies in infrastructural facilities, instructional materials and teacher training.
“We trust that the provision of a conducive learning environment and an impressive compensation package for teachers, among other initiatives, will help in preparing students for success in all examinations and their future careers. All hands must be on deck to accelerate the human capital development of Nigeria to enable us to compete effectively in this knowledge-driven global arena,” Oladipo added.
