NBC donates educational kits to 5,000 students in 5 states

The Nigerian Bottling Company Limited (NBC) has again demonstrated its commitment to investing in the Nigerian Education sector by presenting a total of 5,000 “Back-to-School” kits to pupils of select primary schools in Aba, Lagos, Kaduna, Abuja and Enugu.

The annual activation of this programme at the beginning of the new school year is aimed at motivating the pupils to excel in their academics, as well as taking off some of the financial burden the new school session places on parents and guardians.

Ben Langat, managing director of NBC who was represented by Grace Omo-Lamai, the director of human resources while speaking at the presentation of the school kits to pupils of Christ Assembly Primary School, Lagos, said NBC’s investment in Education was borne out of the company’s commitment to contributing to the sustainability of the communities it operates in. He said a total of 5,000 students in public primary schools are benefiting from the initiative this year.

Also speaking at the presentation ceremony, Olayinka Oladunjoye, the Commissioner for Education, Lagos State, represented by Abiola Abiodun Omole, the director of education, zonal office, stated that the laudable initiative of the Nigerian Bottling Company will remain indelible in the hearts of the children. She thanked the management of NBC for its continued support for education in Lagos State and Nigeria at large.

In his remarks, Adewale Adeogun, the education secretary, Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area (LGA), said the importance of the presentation of the back-to-school kits to pupils of Christ Assembly Nursery and Primary School in Ajegunle, Olodi Apapa, is evident as it instills a sense of pride and confidence in the students. He expressed the appreciation of the Local Government to NBC’s economic and social investment activities in Apapa, one of the company’s host communities.

Also, Kenechukwu Ugochukwu Nwosu, the board secretary, Abia State Universal Basic Education Board thanked the management of NBC for contributing to the development of the intellectual capacity of the young people in Ohabiam Community Primary School 1 & 2, Aba. At the presentation to students in Kuchinguro Community Primary School, Abuja, Ibrahim Wanbi, the district head of Kuchingoro community, expressed his profound gratitude to the company for the kind gesture.

NBC’s investment in the education and development of young people is at the core of its Corporate Social Responsibility framework. The Company is one of the major partners of the Lagos State Support our School initiative launched by His Excellency, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) in 2003 with the aim of encouraging the private sector to invest in public education in the state through infrastructure development, capacity building and supply of educational materials amongst other viable projects to support learning.

For its partnership and commitment to the “Support our School Initiative” NBC, was honoured with the Lagos State Government CSR awards in 2010, 2012 and 2013. Some of the Company’s Social Investment in primary education include: provision and upgrade of infrastructure in schools, capacity building for teachers, and the back-to-school initiative.
