Vlisco Group partners Kinabuti to boost capacity among youths
As part of its drive to boost capacity and provide learning, labour and leadership among young women, Vlisco Group recently partnered with Kinabuti Fashion Initiative to provide fashion master-class, a specialised fashion education classes to local women who wished to take their passion for tailoring to the international standard.
At the end of the four-month training, the best students will be retained and offered employment with Vlisco group and produce a fashion capsule collection to be sold. All profits will be given back to the academy students as a start-up capital.
Monique Gieskes, Vlisco Group brand protection and CSI director, while speaking at a press conference held at Kinabuti premises in Lagos recently, stated that the Vlisco Group chose to partner Kinabuti Fashion Initiative as they share the same drive of facilitating and empowering women through learning, labour and leadership.
Gieskes disclosed that the aim of training the women is for them to acquire high level tailoring skills and education in business administration.
According to her, “For Vlisco Group, the investment in the African fashion world and the empowerment of women, are the drivers for a long lasting initiative: creating a platform that connects African’s fashion talent and creativity with the knowledge and activities of Vlisco Group in the African and global fashion world.”
On her part Fransca Rosset from Kinabuti Fashion Initiative revealed that Rehana Begum, an international trainer of repute will facilitate the project.
Rosset noted that beside Begum’s expert knowledge on fashion education, she has also several years of working experience with underprivileged women.
