Over 10,800 poor, vulnerable persons benefit from FG’s cash programme in Bauchi State
Bauchi State Government said on Thursday that 10,800 poor and vulnerable persons were benefiting from the Federal Government’s Cash Transfer Programme in the state.
Alhaji Mansur Manu-Soro, State Focal Person (SFP) of the programme, announced this in Bauchi while addressing participants at the state Cash Transfer Workshop, organised by the unit of the programme.
Manu-Soro, who is also the Special Adviser on Developmental Partners, said that the beneficiaries were selected from 12 local government areas in the state.
Manu-Soro said that the state was ranked as a model of the Federal Government N-Power programme.
He said it was being expected that about N82.2 million would be injected into the state economy by the end of February through the payment of allowances of about 4,7o7 N-Power volunteer corps members at the rate of N30, 000 each.
Manu-Soro said that the state introduced a monthly clearance of N-Power beneficiaries through production of attendance forms before payment, to add value to the programme.
He announced government would recruit food vendors under the UBE programme to improve child nutrition and school enrollment to create jobs and boost agricultural activities in the state.
Manu-Soro said 3,381 women had been targeted throughout the state with an estimated 46,818 primary school pupils at the rate of one vendor to 100 pupils.
Alhaji Sule Katagum, Chief of Staff to Gov. Muhammed Abdullahi, said the programme would complement the efforts being made by the government in the area of poverty eradication.
Katagum said that government was also committed to ensure that beneficiaries of the programme, especially the Household Care Givers who were mostly women, were adequately mobilised to ensure compliance with their core responsibilities.
Katagum said that the state government had also embarked on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of primary schools as well as the provision of furniture, books and other teaching and learning materials to various schools.
He, therefore, urged the participants to jealously guard the programme, to ensure compliance, registration of cooperatives societies and social groups to sustain the project.
