435 girls get N10.8m education-support grant in Bakori LGA
Suleiman Nalado, the acting Chairman of Bakori Local Government, Katsina State, said on Monday that 435 female children in the area have received more than N10.8 million financial assistance to support their education.
Nalado said in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Katsina that each of the girls was given N25,000 to cover cost of books, uniforms and other basic needs for their education.
“The female wards were given the financial assistance under the Girl-Child Education Programme run by the Katsina State Government and UNICEF.
“The financial assistance was given to those in primary and junior secondary schools,” he said.
The chairman revealed that the parents of the girls had been advised not to spend the money on things that have no relevance to the education of the children.
Nalado commended the state government and UNICEF for the gesture, saying it would encourage girls in the area to remain in school.
NAN reports the programme was introduced to help female children from poor families continue with their education uninterupted up to the basic education level.
