Abia government describes protest in Aba as unfortunate

Abia State government has described as unfortunate the decision of some group of people in Aba to engage in protest on Monday, thereby defying the ban on public procession in place, and therefore disrupting the peace in the state.

Bonnie Iwuoha, the state commissioner for information and strategy, while briefing newsmen on the development, recalled that the ban on public protests, demonstrations had been in force in the state for two weeks now, and regretted that some miscreants defied the order and engaged in the protest without permission.

According to Iwuoha, despite the ban, the miscreants went ahead to force schools and markets to close down and even attacked the police, resulting in an unhealthy development.

To that end, he warned all and sundry to adhere strictly to government directives, as the state government would not tolerate any form of lawlessness, and especially advised parents to take proper care of their children and wards as government would resist any attempt by any person or group to disrupt the peace of the state.

While sympathising with those who may have sustained injuries as a result of the attempt by the miscreants to take laws into their hands, the government called on law abiding citizens to go about their lawful activities without fear, as security agencies had been directed to ensure that all illegal activities that tend to impede the progress of the state and unity of the country were put to a halt.
