Abia PDP chieftain now Eze-elect
Dickson Anyalewechi Nwosu, a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, has been presented to Suleiman Ukandu, Transition Committee chairman of Umuahia North Local Government Area as the Eze-elect of Okahiuga Alike Autonomous Community in Abia State.
The election of Nwosu, former Transition Committee chairman, deputy chairman and councillor of Umuahia North Local Government, was sequel to the vacuum created in his Autonomous Community following the demise of Eze Samuel Nwaubani, the Ike-Uga 1 of Okahiuga Alike in Ohuhu, Umuahia North Local Government Area.
Udenze Amanze Nelson, president-general, Okahiuga Alike, who was accompanied by the community’s king makers, titled chiefs, elders of the community, various dancing troupes and youths from the community to present their Eze-elect to the Transition Committee chairman and members of the Umuahia North Local Government, said on behalf of the entire community both at home and in the Diaspora, we had come formally to present Nwosu as the Eze-elect of the community.
Nelson, in his speech, noted that the presentation was an epoch making event in that the process had been peaceful, orderly and all the necessary due process as enshrined in their constitution had been followed.
“The present administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in the state abhors violence hence we have exhibited a high sense of responsibility, and this exercise was rigorously followed to get where we are today,” said the president-general.
Nelson disclosed that presentation of the new Eze-elect to the functionaries of Umuahia North Local Government was necessitated to fill the vacuum created for some time now in the Ezeship stool of the Autonomous Community following the death of Eze Samuel Nwaubani.
“The emergence of the Eze-elect we are presenting today undoubtedly is not easy process going by the constitution of the Community and the personality that can wear the shoe left behind by late Eze Nwaubani, we have vigorously and patiently brought it to this conclusive end,” enthused Nelson.
The president-general revealed that apart from being an upright and kind-spirited person, the Eze-elect had not been found wanting in all the positions he held in the past which included: Deputy chairman, Transition Committee Chairman and councillor, Umuahia North, and SSA to the Governor among other political positions he held.
He further hinted that before the emergence Nwosu as the Eze-elect he was the Traditional Prime Minister to the late Eze Nwaubani and presently the Village Head of Umuokpuh in Umule Ekeokwuru Community.
Suleiman Ukandu, the Transition Committee chairman, while receiving the people of Okahiuga Alike Autonomous Community, noted that it is only God who makes a king at the appointed time no matter how long it takes.
He said government is an unbiased umpire when it comes to selection or election of Autonomous Community Eze and promised to forward their Eze-elect request to the state Governor who is vested with the authority to recognize and give staff office such person.
He however pleaded with them be peaceful and abhor violence in their Community while the process would be going on.
Nwosu, the Eze-elect, earlier in his acceptance speech said he was grateful to his people for finding him worthy and also thanked the functionaries Umuahia North Local Government Area for the honour given to him as one their own constituency.
He promised not to disappoint his people for this singular honour and privilege given him to serve as their Traditional Ruler.
“ I did not disappoint you when I held different positions both at Community and state levels in the past. I will not do it now but to represent honourably. Whatever that will be due to you from Government will always get to you unhindered.” Said Eze-elect.
