Abia police parade 25 armed robbery suspects
The Abia State police command has paraded 25 suspects who were alleged to be armed robbers, kidnappers, vandals and car snatchers.
While briefing journalists in Umuahia, the Abia State Police Commissioner, Leye Oyebade said that the suspects were rounded up in different parts of the state by his men following a tip-off.
The CP said the command in its continued fight to rid the state of crime and criminality, had adopted strategies aimed at achieving these goals.
He disclosed that some of these strategies, proactive in nature were geared towards fostering robust synergy between the police and public with the target of confidence building and earning the trust of the citizens of the state.
One of the suspected armed robbers, Samuel Okorie aged 23, was said to be one of the gang members who raped, robbed and killed one Anthonia Dike aged 65 on September, 27 along Ofeme axis of Port-Harcourt/ Enugu Expressway.
Oyebade hinted that his men acting on intelligence gathered on October 1, at Lokpaukwu in Umunneochi , operatives arrested Okorie who had confessed to be among the gang who committed the offence.
The CP said efforts to track down the other fleeing suspects were in top gear.
Also paraded were vandals said to specialise in vandalising EEDC installations within Aba and its environs.
The suspects included Chukwudi David, Onyekachi Nwogu, John Okafor, Nnaemeka Akadionye, Nwokoro Akachukwu and Ucheoma Olumba. The suspects all confessed to the commission of the crime.
