Abia Rep calls for overhaul of Buhari’s economic team
Uko Ndukwe Nkole, a member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia, Abia State in the House of Representatives, has called on President Mohammadu Buhari to as a matter of urgency over haul his economic team as the economy is getting worse every other day.
Nkole, who made the call in Umuahia, the Abia State capital over the weekend, noted that it was obvious that the economy was sick, adding that the exchange rate had continued staggering.
“Nigeria is generally an importing country. Most industries are winding up because of the attendant effects of the economic situation in the Country. If nothing is done in this direction, our foreign reserve will soon dry up,” Nkole said.
The Rep noted that it was no longer political party affairs but about Nigeria, as the oil prices had continued to dwindle and there was the need for Nigeria to diversify on our economic base.
“If urgent steps are not taken now, it will be very difficult to pay salaries in the future,” he warned.
Nkole, who later sounded optimistic that Nigeria would survive the situation, however, said President Buhari’s fight against corruption was being supported but while that was going on the masses should not be allowed to continue suffering.
On the padded 2016 budget, he said members of the National Assembly would ensure that things were done in the proper way they should be.
