Abia to organise basic training for workforce
Worried by the lackadaisical, general lesser affair and insensitive behaviour being exhibited within the civil service, the Abia State government says it has concluded arrangement to organise ‘basic training’ for its workforce.
Vivian Uma, the Abia head of service, who disclosed this in Umuahia while declaring open an in-house training organised by the Ministry of Land and Survey, said the basic training would be for workers on grade levels 1-10.
Uma, who described capacity building as vital tool that can make or mar the civil service, observed that training and re-training equip one for future challenges of the office and society, noting that when one was not trained and re-trained he would be retarding and shrinking in his thought and output.
The Abia HoS expressed his disgust over civil and public servants, especially the newly employed ones who know nothing about the service and the respective duties assigned to them, and stressed the need for them to cultivate the habit of reading voraciously to enhance their performance.
He extolled the virtues and vision of the Godfrey Azu, permanent secretary, Ministry of Lands and Survey, and his management team for delving into capacity building business, which he (the HoS) observed would contribute to the growth and effectiveness of the service.
Uma called on other MDAs in the state to emulate the Ministry of Lands in training their personnel.
