A’Ibom begins rehabilitation of Ibom plaza

The Akwa Ibom State government has started the rehabilitation of the popular Ibom plaza in the Uyo metropolis after pot holes had surfaced in the adjourning streets giving motorists a nightmare as they commute daily within the city centre.

In addition to the failed spots, the rehabilitation of the nearby roads including Oron, Aka, Ikot Ekpene and Barracks would also receive a face lift. Already work has commenced in earnest with motorists and commuters now subjected to inconveniences the work progresses.

The Ibom plaza roundabout connects the entire road network in the city while the plaza serves as a business and relaxation resort.

Ifreke Ekpa, the permanent secretary, ministry works, who confirmed the decision of the state government to carry out the rehabilitation of the failed sections of the area urged commuters and motorists to make use of alternate route to get to the city centre.

Meanwhile, residents of adjourning streets including Okokon Etuk and Udo streets which are all within the city centre have expressed delight over the rehabilitation of the failed sections of the roads in the area.

According to them, it is a thing of joy to see part of the inner roads being rehabilitated after pot holes had taken over a good number of roads causing untold hardship to commuters.

Some of them, however, appealed to the state government and the contractors handling the rehabilitation of the roads to expedite action by deploying equipment that will enable the work to be done faster.

In another development, Governor Udom Emmanuel has presented two paramount rulers with staff of office and urged them to maintain peace and unity in their communities.

The royal fathers are Edidem Etim Charles Abia of Eket local government and Edidem Atat Nkan of Oruk Anam local government area of the state

He thanked the people for the peace and tremendous support given his administration and felicitated the people on the occasion of the 29th anniversary celebration of the state creation.

Udom congratulated the chairman traditional rulers’ council Edidem Effiong Bassey Achanga who is the paramount ruler of Ibeno local government area on the significant reforms and orderliness exhibited in piloting the affairs of the traditional institution and assured them of his commitment to the improvement of their welfare.

On his part, Edidem Achanga congratulated the governor on the 29th anniversary of the state creation and for swearing- in new paramount rulers into the council. He also commended the governor for approving reforms in the council and upward review of their stipends as well as their allowances and requested for vehicles for the new the royal fathers.
