Deaths from road crashes reduce by 53% in Edo, says FRSC
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Edo State said on Wednesday that the number of deaths resulting from Road Traffic Crashes (RTC) reduced from 15 in July to seven in August.
Oluwasusi Familoni, sector commander in Edo, who disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Benin City, put the reduction at 53 percent.
Familoni said the number of persons injured also reduced from 62 to 53 during the same period.
He, however, noted that the number of RTC increased from 22 in July to 23 in August.
‘’There was a significant reduction in the number of casualties resulting from auto crashes in the month of August. We were able to identify some locations where accidents are likely to happen and took some preventive measures.
‘’We also now have more special marshals, who were inaugurated July 30 this year, and they are always on the road to ensure that road traffic rules are obeyed,’’ he said.
He also said that 1, 923 offenders were booked for 2, 143 offences, with Seat Belt Violation being the major offence in the month of August.
He added that 867 vehicles were impounded during the period under review by the corps marshals.
