Deregulation, new pump price is long overdue – Kogi activist

The story of new pump price ‎is not different in Kogi State, one of the states in the North Central, but the only thing that was different was a sigh of relief by the residents as the pump price of fuel in that part of country was constantly between N150 and N220 since the beginning of fuel crisis.
According to Bob Umunna, Public Affairs Analyst and Human Rights Activist in Lokoja, the Capital of Kogi State, the removal of fuel subsidy is desirable and long over due and I think the best policy approach is to deregulate fully and
allow market forces to determine the price of PMS in the Nigerian economy.
He added,”While the government will use the savings from fuel subsidy to provide necessary palliatives to cushion the effect of the‎ deregulation on populace. This policy approach will achieve two
measure advantages‎ on percieved graft and massive corruption in the fuel subsidy administration and allowing the product to be avaliable at competitive price in the nearest future, thus allowing for seemless logistic planning by consumers of the product within our economy.

“I want to appeal to Nigerians to help government take the most appropriate decision devoid of continued subsidy. This is the way to go because during our prolonged subsidy period the product was never procurred by most Nigerians at subsidized prices, paarticularly those that live outside this city, such as Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt.‎”
