Disu, MD, Lekki Worldwide Investment, shot dead

police make arrest as Ambode mourns

Sadness on Monday enveloped Lagos State officials, particularly those involved in the development of the Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFTZ) as Tajudeen Disu, managing director, Lekki Worldwide Investment Limited, which holds Lagos State equity in the LFTZ, was shot dead.

Disu was said to have been shot by yet to be identified assailants in the early hours of Monday during an official visit to one of the villages within the zone.

As of the time of filing this report, the Lagos State police command has made at least 10 arrests in connection with crime, which motive is yet to be established. There are fears that the murder could slow down investment drive in LFTZ. The police said they would unravel the motive behind the murder.

Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, shocked by the killing, has ordered the police not to leave any stone unturned in their investigation, and must bring the perpetrators to book.

“We are deeply touched by the loss of our dedicated officer at the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Tajudeen Disu, who was until his death the arrow head of the Free Trade Zone initiative. He was killed within the Lekki Free Trade Zone this morning (yesterday). It really saddens my heart and the heart of all of us because this was somebody that has been dedicated to his duty in the past ten years,” the governor said.

Meanwhile, Fatai Owoseni, the state police commissioner, said the police had swung into action to ensure the culprits were brought to book, saying that some suspects had been apprehended and investigation was ongoing to determine if there were major sponsors behind the killing.

“We have so far arrested 10 suspects and the arrests we have made are those that are directly responsible. We are still in the centre of the operation to be made.

“We would do a diligent investigation. We will ensure that those people that are behind it are arrested, not just the people we see on the road are the perpetrators, and there may be sponsors. We go after these sponsors and I can assure you we will ensure the investigation is carried out as speedily as possible as we make sure they are diligently prosecuted,” said Fatai.
