DSS parades two suspected abductors of Olu Falae

The Department of the State Security Services (DSS) on Monday paraded two of the suspects that allegedly participated in the kidnap of Olu Falae, former secretary to government of the federation.

Falae was reportedly kidnapped by Fulani herdsmen at his farm in Ilado, Akure on September 21, 2015.

Abdullahi Garba, a DSS official, who addressed newsmen on-behalf of the DSS during the parade of the suspects in Abuja, confirmed the payment of N5 million as ransom before he (Falae) was released.

“It may be recalled that Chief Olu Falae, former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF) was on Monday, 21 of September, 2015, abducted by armed men on his farm located at Ilado village, Akure, Ondo State,” said in a statement.

“Even though he has been released by his abductors who collected the sum of N5 million ransom, two of the abductors were arrested by the service on October 5, 2015, at J Zebra Hotel along Ganaja Road, Lokoja, Kogi State.

“The duo arrested include Abdullahi Usman (aka Kadiri) and Babawuro Kato.

“The service wishes to state that the abductors were mere criminals. Investigations have further revealed that their action was not targeted at Falae as a statesman and prominent Yoruba leader,” he said.

While feeding questions from newsmen, one of the suspects, Babawo Kato, 26, said he was responsible for getting food for their abductee.

“I was introduced to the business by my friend, Abdullahi Usman after we met in Kwara State. It was one Dotijo (still at large) that collected the N5 million and he disappeared afterwards before we got arrested,” he said.

The second suspect, Abdullahi Usman also known as Kadiri said he never knew the identity of the man abducted but facilitated his movement from Ogbese, in Ondo State to his point where the police picked him up.

The DSS said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspected members of the abductors who were at large.
