EMAN urges government to ensure strict implementation of town planning laws
Dr Emmanuel Ating, the President of Environmental Management Association of Nigeria (EMAN), on Wednesday advised the federal and state governments to strictly implement town and regional planning laws.
According to him, the theme of the World Habitat Day, “Public Spaces For All’’ concerns all Nigerians as many developments are taking place without regards to open and public spaces.
“Public space means an environment where everybody can exist without a person acting as an encumbrance to the other.
“It is also where people are environmentally friendly and where activities at recreational spots play significant role,’’ he said.
The EMAN president said that the town and regional planning as well as environmental laws needed to be adhered to.
According to him, the problem is basically lawlessness as the public spaces were normally provided for at the design stages of every development.
He said that professionals in fully developed environment should be mindful of their professional ethics and should educate their clients on the need for public spaces to exist.
