Enugu flag off construction of 34 rural roads
nugu state governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has flagged off construction of 34 rural roads to kick start his promise to develop rural areas in the state.
Ugwuanyi who said the roads that cut across the 17 local government areas of the state were selected by the people from the various council areas as one of their most important needs.
The governor emphasised that the roads were not only constructed for the easy evacuation of agricultural products, but would also serve as an encouragement to investors who would like to invest in the rural areas.
Speaking to journalists in a social gathering in Enugu, Ugwuanyi noted that his administration has concluded plans to develop more township out of the present Enugu metropolis to decongest the city.
The new Township that would be developed, he said include Nsukka, Awgu, Agbani, and Oji-River among others.
He lamented that Awgu as one of the oldest Local government in the state has no functional bank because of its backwardness in development.
According to him the construction of the roads would start in earnest as soon as the raining season subsides to avoid doing double work.
Ugwuanyi said that although the economic recession was hard on the government purse the development of other townships out of the capital city was a must priority considering the fact that Enugu was capital of some many states before now.
“The previous administrations concentrated more in Enugu metropolis and there is need to develop other towns” he said.
