Faleke’s brother in police net over alleged inciting statement against governor
Funsho Olumoko, a brother to aggrieved deputy governorship candidate in the last Kogi state governorship election, James Faleke and former chairman of Ijumu local council was on Tuesday whisked by men of Police at his residence in Ekirin Adde ,Kogi State at about 1.30 am early on Tuesday to an unknown destination.
BusinessDay reliably gathered that the uniform men came with four heavily armed Hilux vans, using ladder to climb the fence leading to his premises, smashing the door to his residence that aided them gaining access, while some of the policemen gained entrance through ceiling and eventually whisked away Olumoko, a brother to James Faleke the All Progressive Congress (APC) Deputy Governorship candidate in November 2015.
Source close to the family disclosed that his 95-year old father and 70-year old mother were harassed and manhandled in an arrest that might not be unconnected with recent press briefing he had in his community during which he was alleged to have made some inciting comments against incumbent Governor Yahaya Bello and his administration.
Olumoko was said to have condemned Governor Bello and his government’s efforts to repair and
rename a Primary Health Centre built as far back as 2007 in the community by the Federal government, saying that the governor attempted to claim the credit as a new project to be commissioned by the Governor’s wife on Tuesday (yesterday).
Meanwhile the Audu /Faleke Political Organization has condemned the invasion of the country home and arrest of Olumoko describing it as crude and high-handed.
The Director Media and Publicity of the group, Duro Meseko in a statement, said the forceful manner the police were reported to have made their ways into his (Olumoko) residence was enough to remind Nigerians of the dark days of Military junta.
He said, “Even if the police have anything against him, there are civilized ways of inviting him for questioning rather than resorting to this crude and shameful method employed.”
“We call on the State government and the leaders of police to order the release of Olumoko without delay so as not to aggravate the situation”, he said.
But, when BusinessDay contacted the Police Public Relation Officer of Kogi State Police Command, ASP William Aya, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), he claimed ignorance of the development, saying he was yet to be briefed on the matter.
