Fire outbreak at LIRS building
An early morning fire on Monday gutted a part of the building occupied by the Lagos Inland Revenue Service (LIRS).
It could not be ascertained as of the time of filing in this report what caused the fire said to have sparked off at about 8:45am.
When BusinessDay visited the scene, staff of the LIRS, Eko Bank, and other businesses that occupy the four-storey building had all been evacuated to safety.
Michael Akindele, general manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), told BusinessDay that his men received a distress call from the occupants of the building, and raced to the scene.
“We were able to put out the fire without anybody being hurt. We cannot ascertain the cause of the fire but investigation is still ongoing. However, we noticed that a split unit air-conditioner has been destroyed,” said Akindele.
