Flood disaster in Kaduna render thousands homeless
Thousands of residents in Kaduna have been rendered homeless as the Kaduna River overflows its bank.
A visit to some of the flooded areas saw many of the affected victims watching helplessly. Some of those whose houses were affected but could access them were seen packing out some of their belongings, albeit with the assistance of some boys who could swim for a token of up to N20,000.
Some whose vehicles were trapped had to pay up to N12,000 for their vehicles to be brought out, according to one of the victims. Areas highly flooded include Barnawa, Kudenda, Kigo new extension, Gonin gora, Ungwa romi, Rafin gusa, among others.
Meanwhile, officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), civil defence, Red Cross, among others, were on ground at the Kigo new extension rendering relevant assistant.
Some of the victims lamented that they had lost monies and properties worth millions to the flood. No official statement from relevant agencies has been released and no report of death was recorded as of the time of filing this report.
