Ganduje explains why he sacked officials
Governor of Kano State Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has shed light on why he resolved to remove some top government functionaries, such as Secretary to the State Government, director-general, media and publicity, and others.
Governor Ganduje said they were removed as part of his initiative to fine-tune the machinery of his administration towards efficient and effective service delivery.
BusinessDay observed that the governor within last week announced the removal of some top government functionaries he inherited from the immediate past administration of his former boss, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
“It has become imperative to bring on board the right calibre of individuals, with credible records and experience in order to help in moving state affairs to greater heights,” the governor said.
The governor made the remark shortly after swearing in the new Secretary to the State government, Usman Alhaji.
It could be recalled that the administration announced the replacement of the erstwhile Secretary to the State government, Rabi’u Sulaiman Bichi, and redeployment of some permanent secretaries in the state civil service.
He said the appointment of the new Secretary to the State Government was justified because “he is a person with high integrity, wealth of experience and an astute politician with good sense of responsibility.”
He further noted that the permanent secretaries were experienced civil servants whose appointments were based on merit, good track record of service and loyalty.
Ganduje thus tasked the new SSG to ensure synergy in the coordination of all projects and programmes as well as implementation of policies, while stressing the need for the permanent secretaries to improve the glory of the service and abide by its etiquettes.
The governor said the state civil service had been restructured in line with international best practices, adding that various reform initiatives were introduced in order to develop its capacity and make it more result-oriented
