ICPC urges monarchs not to honour dubious men
Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Enugu has advised traditional and religious leaders to stop honouring wealthy individuals with questionable and dubious characters in the society.
ICPC regretted that rather than exposing such people within their environments, some monarchs over the years, accorded them recognition because of their personal interest.
Speaking recently at a town hall meeting in Enugu with traditional rulers, and other stakeholders, Hassan Mohammed, head, south-east zonal office of ICPC advised that royal fathers should start imbibing the culture of speaking out against corrupt persons in their respective communities irrespective of status.
He stated that it has become obvious that the anti-graft agencies alone cannot win the war against corruption in Nigeria hence, the need for stakeholders such as the royal fathers to join hands with the organisation in fighting the menace.
Mohammed explained that the aim of the meeting was to sensitise the royal fathers on the need to fight corruption in their domains in view of the influence they wield.
He stressed that the royal fathers have a big role to play in the war against corruption, because every corrupt individual comes from a home in any community or locality.
“It is obvious that ICPC alone cannot win the war against corruption in Nigeria,
People must stop keeping quite in the face of corruption” pointing out that war against corruption must be people driven and that the media also has a very big role to play in the fight.
