Ikpeazu assures on security in Abia

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has said his administration is working hard to ensure the security of lives and properties in the state, irrespective of their tribe and religion.

Governor Ikpeazu said this while hosting Muslims in the state that converged at the state Government House to break their Eid-el-Fitri fast with him, in the spirit of tolerance and love.

The state has established the Muslim Pilgrim Welfare Board, Ikpeazu said, affirming that the state has also concluded plans to subsidise their pilgrimage to Mecca.

The governor also stated that the state had made available, a burial ground for them to perform the burial rites of their members and called on them to be united in faith of the Almighty Allah for peace, love and progress, which according to him, was the hallmark of the teachings of Prophet Mohammed.

Idris Iheakaram, leader of the Muslim delegation, noted that the forum was the first of its kind in the state, stressing that the breaking of fast with the governor would seal his God’s given position in the state.

The Imam, who described the Governor as a detribalized Nigerian, maintained that Muslims in Abia State are happy that Allah is using Ikpeazu to change the narrative of the state for good.

He referred to Ikpeazu, as a Nazarene – a man whom nobody believed good things could come out from, but expressed happiness that the governor had altered such believe and proved his critics wrong with his developmental strides he has embarked on in the state already.

Meanwhile, the governor has wished all Muslims, especially those in Abia and Nigeria, Eid Mubarak as they celebrate Eid Fitr.

The governor in a statement signed by Enyinaya Appolos, his chief press secretary, prayed that may God grant them the grace to imbibe the lessons of the Ramadan.

He expressed joy over the peaceful relationship existing among Muslims and non-Muslims in Abia State, and called on all to continue to promote peaceful coexistence, regardless of faith or tribe.

He stated that inter-religious harmony would contribute to better understanding and support government’s efforts at ensuring a more peaceful state for all citizens and visitors.
