Ikpeazu tasks graduates to look beyond certificate acquisition
Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has tasked university graduates to look beyond their certificates and identify themselves so as to be relevant in society.
Governor Ikpeazu, who gave the charge while speaking at the 24th convocation ceremony of the Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu, said the present times required that graduates should look for avenues to become self reliant.
Ikpeazu promised to do his best to meet the needs of the institution and pledged to donate a 40-seater bus and generating set to the institution.
The governor stated that the generating set was to encourage students to live on campus thereby discouraging cultism, and reiterated his readiness to make public the names of cult members in all institutions in the state.
He was of the view that university degrees were meant to be awarded to those found worthy in character and in learning, and not to bullies.
In his speech, the vice chancellor of ABSU, Uche Ikonne, disclosed that the school had secured full accreditation in laboratory science and computer science, adding that ABSU was on course in industrialising research with a view to increasing the internally generated revenue of the school.
Ikonne, who said that a total of 3561 graduated in first degree and higher degrees, would get their certificate, and highlighted some of his achievements and congratulated the graduates on their successes.
