Imo State pensioners lament unpaid pension
The Nigerian Union of Pensioners, Imo State Chapter has expressed regrets over lack of failed promises and neglect by the state government.
The union in a press statement complained about unpaid entitlements ranging from pension arrears, gratuities and no-harmonisation of pensions.
Gideon Ezeji, the Imo State chairman of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, also debunked claims by the state government on their payment of 12 years pension arrears in 2011.
According to him, the non-payment of their entitlement has brought untold hardship to its members as most of them are bedridden and unable to pay their hospital bills.
Meanwhile, Vitalis Ajumbe, the Imo State Commissioner on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and pension matters said that the state has commenced payment of some cadre of pensioners but that their major concern is the lack of accurate data to capture a proper documentation and collation.
