Infrastructure, agric, job creation, priority in my second year – Ikpeazu
Okezie Ikpeazu, governor of Abia State, says in his second year in office priority will be given to critical infrastructural development, agriculture and job creation in the state.
Ikpeazu said this in Umuahia while flagging off the reconstruction of the 2.65km Aba-Umuahia dual carriage way by Arab Contractors.
The flagging off ceremony marked the beginning of activities for his second year, and which commenced from the railway junction to Eastern Comfort Hotel, the governor said, saying he was convinced that the project would be achieved on record time.
He charged the company handling the project to take it with all amount of seriousness.
Ikpeazu, who observed that roads failed in the state due to soil texture and the effect of bombardment during the Nigerian civil war, assured that the contractor would do a quality job.
“The event marked the beginning of better things for the state in the second year of my administration. Emphasis would be given to agriculture, critical infrastructure and job creation,” Ikpeazu said, saying he expected that many more roads would be handled by his administration this year.
Also speaking, Eziuche Ubani, commissioner for works, said the contract was advertised to a number of A grade contractors after which Arab Contractors was arrived at after bidding, maintaining that feasibility study was done on the road.
He pointed out that the road was important because in a few months, the hitherto moribund Golden Guinea Breweries, Umuahia, would come back on stream, adding that it was a major access to the company.
The Abia commissioner appealed to Abians to co-operate with the contractors to enable them deliver on time.
Earlier, Osama Mustapha, managing director of Arab Contractors, expressed appreciation to the state government for considering the company for the job and promised to do a professional job as well as deliver the contract on time.
