Kano steps up construction of multipurpose skills acquisition centre
Kano State government is bracing up to the challenge of meeting the manpower needs of the state through engagement of youths in various trades and services, the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has announced.
As a way of achieving this goal, he maintained that his administration is committed to the completion of a multi billion naira Kano Skills Acquisition Center project, whose foundation was laid by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo a few months ago.
The governor made this disclosure, in a message delivered during this year’s International Youth Day. He hinted that the center, when completed, would assist in making the youth more gainfully employed.
In the same vein, he stated that the government has approved the selection of 2,000 youth for absolution into the National Peace Corp, while a partnership for employment of at least 5,000 youths to serve as agents and sub-agents for a commercial bank and a
communications company has also been approved by the administration.
Also, he disclosed that his government has signed an MOU with the office of the Presidential Adviser on Social Investment for implementation of the N-Power project, aimed at creating job opportunities especially among university graduates.
Governor Ganduje added that “in the past one year, several youth empowerment programmes have been initiated by our government under which about 5, 000 business operators and youths have benefited across the state”.
According to him, this is in addition to the government’s huge investment in education and sports development, which are aimed at ensuring the physical and intellectual development of the youth, who are leaders of tomorrow.
He described the theme of this year’s International youth day celebration “Road to 2030: Eradication Poverty and Achieving Sustainable production and Consumption” as apt considering the level of poverty among youth all over the world.
