Kano to enact new legislation on land reform
Kano State government plans to enact a legislation to promote its land reform programme, as part of measures to improve revenue generation.
Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje stated this while receiving the minister of finance, Kemi Adeosun, recently in Kano.
Governor Ganduje said appropriate use of land, and other related benefits are very imperative to his administration, especially in the present economic situation when the state is trying to explore alternative sources of revenue.
Governor Ganduje added that state wants to make effective use of it land resource in its quest to diversify it income sources through promoting investment in agriculture.
He told the Minister that a delegation from Kano has been sent to Lagos to understudy its revenue generation system for emulation, adding that the administration would also enlighten the citizenry on the need to pay their dues appropriately.
Earlier, the minister, Kemi Adeosun said the Federal government is firmly committed to diversifying the economy and commended Governor Ganduje for the resilient way he is managing Kano, despite economic challenges.
Meanwhile, Governor Ganduje has charged the state Investment Promotion Agency to look for investors who are willing to put resources in the development of the state, especially in agriculture and other allied sectors.
He also mandated the agency to source for new investors that will invest in the development of the abandoned Kanawa International market.
The governor, who made the assertion while receiving the members of the board of the agency.
According to him, his administration drive generate new investment is necessitated by the need to exploit non – oil sources of revenue, in the light of dwindling income from the Federation account
The governor also tasked them to look for investors willing to partner with the government in its proposed light rail project and alternative energy supply for domestic and industrial use.
Earlier, the chairman of the agency, Isyaku Umar Tofa explained that Kano is very fertile for investment, adding that an action plan for investment is being drawn, to enable the state move to the next stage of economic development.
He added that the agency is determined to ensure that viable infrastructural projects are completed, as they would enhance the investment potential of the state.
