Lafarge Africa begins N200m road reconstruction in Ogun

Lafarge Africa plc, a member of LafargeHolcim, has earmarked about N200 million for major roadwork repairs on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

According to a statement obtained by BusinessDay on Lafarge road reconstruction project in Abeokuta on Tuesday, a 3-kilometre road reconstruction would be undertaken by Lafarge Africa on a stretch of Lagos-Abeokuta highway that passes in front of Lafarge’s plants (WAPCO operations) in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Ade Ojolowo, manager, corporate communications, told BusinessDay through an e-mail statement that ‎”Lafarge Africa plc is committing about N200 million to the 3-km road from Agbesi to Itori in Ewekoro.

“This is an indication of the company’s commitment to safety of lives and property and in furtherance of its CSR efforts. It is also to complement efforts of the government.

“The Ogun State government is deeply involved and is being carried along. The designs have been shared and agreed with the government and monitoring of the repair work to comply with agreed standards, and will be jointly carried out by Lafarge Africa and the state government.”

While giving the breakdown of reconstruction components, Ojolowo noted that the 3-kilometre road repair work, which started on September 22, would be completed within three months.

He said: “The repair works include: Construction of drainages on 1.13km of the road to ensure it is self-draining Concrete repair of roundabouts directly opposite Lakatabu plant at Ewekoro and Itori Asphalting of potholes on 1.13km of the road.

“The repair works will take place within three months, effective September 22, 2015. While we regret any inconveniences caused road users during this period, motorists are urged to be mindful of the exercise and drive with care.”
