Lagos to boost trade with establishment of int’l convention centre
Lagos State government says it has commenced the process of developing an international convention and exhibition centre that will boost trade and investments.
The state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, said this on Monday when a delegation from Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) led by its president, Nike Akande, called at the State House, while also stating the resolve of his administration to support enterprise by implementing policies favourable to business.
Ambode said a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to construct the convention centre, to be located within Victoria Island, had already been signed, and would occupy 30,000 square meters space. Upon completion, the centre, he said would compete with some of the best exhibition centres around the world.
The governor emphasised the importance LCCI in growing the economy, and lauded its leadership for partnering the state over the years, to develop the economy, especially ensuring businesses and investments continue to thrive.
Akande said the visit of the business delegation was part of activities to further improve on the relationship existing between the state and the LCCI, lauding the progress so far made by government in the last one year, as Lagos was witnessing a gradual but steady rebranding under Ambode.
She commended the donations of equipment to security agencies, road reconstruction and rehabilitation, improvement in traffic flow, the street lighting project and creation of N25 billion Employment Trust Fund (ETF), among others, saying these initiatives were important enablers for the private sector.
“The governor has not only sustained the good legacies of his predecessors, but has created a new development trajectory for Lagos State. His strategy is result-oriented,” Akande said
