LASG, Globacom parley on One Lagos Fiesta
Globacom, one of Nigeria’s telcos, is partnering Lagos State government as the major sponsor of One Lagos Fiesta, an initiative introduced by the state government to celebrate the end of the year and countdown to the New Year.
Globacom is partnering the state government for the second year running, and its participation in the fiesta the second time “signposts our belief in the overwhelming potential of Lagos as a tourism destination capable of drawing attention from all parts of the world,” according to the company.
According to the telco, Lagos, with the right support, can become the number one tourism destination in Africa in a few years. The company promised to deploy all necessary materials to add value to this year’s edition of One Lagos Fiesta and ensure that Lagosians have a time of their lives at all its stands across the five locations the event will be holding.
The telecoms firm was officially unveiled as the partner of the project at a press conference in Lagos, at the weekend, jointly addressed by Steve Ayorinde, Lagos State commissioner for information and strategy, Adebimpe Akinsola, acting commissioner for arts and culture, and the representatives of the sponsors.
According to Ayorinde, the One Lagos Fiesta this year is bigger with new interesting additions that will engrave the initiative in the minds of Lagosians for a long time to come. Among such innovative additions is a grassroots competition tagged ‘Lagos Has Got Talent,’ which will provide a platform for youths to come together to compete for glory, using their God-given talent and skills in singing, dancing, rapping and so many more.
The Fiesta has been scheduled to hold simultaneously in five locations, namely, Agege, Badagry, Ikorodu, Epe and Lagos Island (Bar Beach). But unlike last year, when it happened for five days, this year, the fiesta will last eight days.
According to Ayorinde “the general idea is to constructively engage the youths and create additional platforms for business activities for Lagosians even in the midst of the social interactions.” He expressed the happiness of the Lagos State government towards Globacom and the other corporate bodies, which have agreed to lend their financial muscle to ensure the success of the programme.
Akinsola, who is also the co-chair of the 2016 inter-ministerial planning committee of the fiesta, said the event will attract the biggest stars in the country’s music firmament from various genres, including hip-hop, reggae, juju, apala, afro beat, highlife among others.
According to her, there would be sufficient security around the event, thereby ensuring that participants are safe throughout the period.
