LEAH Foundation provides educational needs of 900 students in Kwara

The Wife of Kwara Governor, Omolewa Ahmed and Founder of LEAH Foundation, has said that the education arm of the Foundation has taken over the educational needs of over 900 students in the state.

Ahmed said this at an interactive session with newsmen in Ilorin.

She said that under the “Adopt a child” programme of LEAH Foundation, educational needs of students in public schools like uniforms, school sandals, bags, text books and writing materials were supplied by the Foundation.

Ahmed said when LEAH adopted a child, “it does not mean that such a child will leave his parents but the educational needs of the child will be provided by the Foundation’’.

According to her, the adoption of children’s educational needs cut across the 16 local government areas of the state, including non-indigenes.

She said the latest adoption of such students were five boys adopted at Emmanuel Church Primary School, Kekebe in Moro Local Government Area of the state.

Ahmed said that the five boys were brought to LEAH Children Reception Home (LCRH) where they would live and attend a nearby secondary school.

She said LEAH was a calling from God and a Ministry established to touch the lives of the vulnerable, orphaned, abused children and widows positively.

Ahmed, therefore, assured the less-privileged in the society of her efforts towards making life more meaningful for them in the face of numerous economic challenges.

She said that LEAH Charity Foundation had touched so many lives positively and would continue in that direction.

“LEAH is to give the widows, orphans, vulnerable and abused children hope and follow-up with their activities to enhance and sustain their means of livelihood.’’ Ahmed said.

She said that LEAH Foundation was a project that she started informally before her husband became the state governor.

“I therefore used the privilege of being the wife of Gov Ahmed to broaden the scope of our activities in order to achieve the desired goals of touching lives.

“LEAH Project is a calling by God that I had tried to dodge many times but He later inspired, guided and equipped me to sojourn on the journey,” Ahmed said.

She said that the Foundation had carried out many community outreaches, adopting the burdens and parental responsibilities of orphans and vulnerable children, empowerment of women and needy husbands among others.

Ahmed explained how she lost her best friend and aunt to cancer, which later compelled her to commence an advocacy, awareness and campaign against cervical and breast cancer in women.

According to her, LEAH foundation has established a total of 18 Cancer Screening Centres across the state with the latest one with modern equipment inaugurated at the General Hospital, Ilorin.

Ahmed appealed to parents to stand up to their responsibilities of providing for the needs of their children as well as attending to their health challenges by visiting healthcare centres when necessary.

She sought the assistance of individuals, corporate organisations and NGOs for the Foundation to continue to sustain its laudable programmes.
