MASSOP/IPOB protest: Aba is peaceful – governor
Following the mass protest by Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOP) and the Independent People of Biafra for the release of the director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State says the state is peaceful and will continue to be a such.
In a press statement signed by Godwin Adindu, the chief press secretary to Abia governor as a result of the demonstration rumours making the rounds alleged the state is in turmoil.
The statement noted that even though the demonstrations cut across most South-East and South-South states, some detractors of Abia were cashing in on the situation to insinuate that there had been disturbances in Aba.
“Their aim is to ride on the situation to actually create problems and cause a breach of peace. But, the truth of the matter is that Aba has been calm and the people of the city have maintained a peaceful and conducive atmosphere. The people of Aba have conducted themselves in a very responsible manner and have resisted all the attempts by election petitioner losers to use them to vent out their frustrations,” the statement noted.
