Plateau Govt. to provide teaching aids, work tools to Jos prison
Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau, on Wednesday, pledged to support the Jos prisons with teaching aids and work tools to facilitate the total rehabilitation of inmates.
Lalong, who was represented during a visit to the prison by his Special Assistant on Education, Wanga Lemoro, commended the prison officials for giving priority to the welfare of inmates.
The governor, who inspected the school library, class rooms, inmates view centre, metal workshop, tailoring workshop and others, pledged more support to the facility.
He noted that the Prison authority had made efforts to develop the capacity of inmates through education, stressing that the government would collaborate with them to ensure effective rehabilitation of the inmates.
Lalong promised to intervene in the areas of needs, such as teachings aids, upgrading of the school library, provision of school desks, tools and equipment for the workshops.
“Let me use this opportunity to commend the officials of this prison for making the welfare of the prisoners a priority.
“I am particularly happy with your determination in giving the inmates a better future, because they still have a life to live after here.
“With what I have seen in the school here, I have great hope that, even after serving their various jail terms, they will leave this place more better and refined.
“This will also mean well for this country, because through the education and trainings they receive here, they will not go back to their old ways, and the society will be safer.”
Earlier, Controller of Prisons, Plateau State Command, Noel Ailewon, thanked the state government for its support and commitment to the reformation of the prisoners.
He assured that the inmates would not just be reformed, but rehabilitated and re-integrated into the society as productive citizens.
