Resident doctors want Buhari to address corruption, policy inconsistency in health sector
In order to address several industrial disputed that often characterised the health sector, the National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria wants the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to address corruption and policy inconsistency, which it described as the bane of the health sector.
Muh’da Askira, national president of the body, said on Tuesday in Abuja that corruption had been the backbone of most of the crisis that often rocked the health sector.
He stated further that corruption had many facets ranging from financial to administrative malpractices, as he ascribed pockets of strikes in the sector to arising from such corrupt practices by respective hospital management.
“What is needed is to clean up the system and prepare the ground for the political leadership of a minister to take off, since there are lots of decadence in the public sector, “he stated
According to him, “in specifics, the new minister must address incessant industrial actions by the medical doctors that often characterised the sector and ensure inter-professional harmony among various professional bodies as they discharge their duties without disputes.
Even those hospitals that have now resolved their impasse with our various member branches through MoUs are mostly reneging on the agreements reached, and this is further deepening the crisis, he said.
