Rivers orders heightened work on key economic roads as rains cease
Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has directed that all rehabilitation and reconstruction works on critical economic roads in Port Harcourt, the state capital, be intensified.
Wike noted that the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the roads remain vital to maintain re-booting the state economy.
In a statement signed by Simeon Nwakaudu, special assistant to the Rivers State governor on electronic media, the governor noted that the rehabilitation had been programmed to reach all major roads.
He said the new roads being constructed in Obio/Akpor, Port Harcourt, Eleme and Ikwerre local government areas would continue as scheduled.
As of Sunday, Julius Berger construction firm was consolidating on preliminary works on the rehabilitation of failed portions of Aba Road, the key arterial road in the state capital.
The preliminary remedial works at the waterlines stretch of Aba Road are said to be progressing, while another construction firm, CCECC, at the UTC Junction end of Aba Road has reached advanced staged in its rehabilitation work.
Massive infrastructural development was one of the key campaign promises of Governor Wike during the campaigns.
