Road infrastructure will boost our economy – Abia
Abia State government says the roads it is constructing in various parts of the state have the potentials of boosting economic activities in the state and connecting communities.
Eziuche Ubani, the state commissioner for works, who stated this while inspecting the progress of works on the roads being constructed in Abia North Senatorial zone, said the roads were properly chosen to give the people a sense of belonging as well as to alleviate their plight.
According to Ubani, the government is on 60 active sites while work is ongoing simultaneously on all the sites.
The commissioner expressed satisfaction with the various contractors handling the projects for living up to expectation, pointing out that the essence of the inspection was to ascertain the challenges confronting the contractors with a view to surmounting them.
Ubani, who described the 34km Abam Ndi Okereke- Arochukwu road being handled by Master Services Limited as an important one, said realising the bridge on the road before the rains set in was a major priority, assuring that government would continue to provide the contractors with funding to enable them complete the roads on record time.
Speaking earlier while conducting the commissioner round the Abam- Arochukwu road, the contractor handling the project, Ugochukwu Ohuabunwa said 40 percent of the project had been achieved and expressed the hope that the project would be completed by the end of the year.
Also speaking during the commissioner’s visit to the Acha and Amibo Otamkpa road in Isuikwuato LGA, Emma Nwaka, the state chairman of PDP, said the road, which was linked to Ebonyi State, when completed would enhance commercial activities in the area and thanked the governor for his desire to open up communities in the state.
The roads inspected by the commissioner, who was accompanied by his permanent secretary, Richard Nwala and top officials of the ministry, included the Nneato bridge and the Eke Eziama Obulo- Ngodo Isuochi Road in Umunneochi LGA.
Others included the Bende-Idima Abam road, the Abam-Ndiokereke-Arochukwu road in Arochukwu LGA, the Abiriba –Etitiama Nkporo road and the Abiriba ring road in Ohafia LGA.
