Sokoto Transport coy generates N42.8m revenue

The Sokoto State Transport Company has generated N42.8 million revenue between May 2015 and May 2016, an official said on Friday.

Alhaji Dahiru Abbas, the Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry for Works, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto that the company also transported 100, 800 passengers during the period.

He said: “Within the period the sum of over N42.8 million was generated through the fleets of buses on intra and inter state shuttles.

“The company recorded a total of 100,800 passengers, charging rates as approved by the state government.”

Abbas said that from the revenue generated, N22.8 million was expended on maintenance of the vehicles on the company’s fleet.

“A total of N18.12 million was expended on staff salary and other administrative issues.

“As a direct public service delivering authority, the state transport company strives to enhance the performance of its personnel.

“By this, we ensure prompt payment of their salaries and other entitlements as stipulated by the state civil service regulations,” he said.

The permanent secretary also highlighted some achievements recorded by another company under the ministry, the Sokoto Engineering and Construction Company (SECCO).

According to him, the company is currently supervising several construction projects in the state.

“In the first one year of the present administration of Gov. Aminu Tambuwa, SECCO carried out some maintenance projects on some roads.

“Some of the projects include surface dressing on roads, control of flood through construction of embankment and drainage.

“The company also constructed new earth dams and rehabilitated some, spread across the 23 local governments of the state,’’ he said.
