We can’t compromise insecurity in Eleme, we are the Nigerian economy – Ollormate CTC chairman
Insecurity is synonymous with the Niger Delta, an oil-rich region in Nigeria. Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State is by far, the base of the international oil and gas business community. Today it plays host to about 200 multinational companies as clients in Onne Oil and Gas Free Zone (OGFZ). The crime tide is high, and so the orgy of bloodletting in the LGA, which is unarguably the fulcrum of the Port Harcourt industrial corridor. Cries of victims of cultism, kidnapping, robberies and sundry crimes hold sway here. There is fear across Eleme communities, as people have been subjected to terrible traumas by criminals. From communities like Ebubu, Eteo, Onne, Agbonchia, Ogale to Alesa, among others, daredevil criminals had held the socio-economic space hostage.
But these would no longer continue, going by new realities on ground. The Rivers government had been strong in containing crime across LGAs in the state. So, when Governor Nyesom Wike recently appointed new Caretaker-Committee chairmen across the LGAs, he gave them strong orders to bring down crime in their areas.
For Obariollormate, the CTC chairman of Eleme LGA, he has marshalled strategies to shoot down crime in the LGA, and position it as an investment destination. The Onne born council boss, whose community is host to the Oil and Gas Free Zone, sure knows how to get the job done. As a former youth president, he left remarkable footprints then.
On insecurity, he has raised a battle cry. Although, he would also employ the carrot-and-stick approach. He has therefore, appealed to the youths to embrace peace; help trace out the criminals; get the council area free from criminality.
Obariollormate said, as one who has unlimited stake to the security protection of the LGA and its people, he has to work hard to position the place as an economic backbone to the country’s economy.
“I’m out to fight any form of insecurity threat to our people, and the oil and gas free zone,” he stated. He noted that providence has blessed the LGA with a petroleum refining company, petrochemical and fertilizer plants, an oil and gas free zone, among many other industrial concerns.
For the council boss, it would amount to socio-economic suicide to the LGA to allow insecurity or criminalities to take over the area, as they would be the direct losers.
He is therefore, calling on all and sundry to join him the fight against insecurity and push development of the LGA forward; saying, “it will be all-inclusive administration, which would include the youth leaders, chiefs, women leaders and all the government security agencies in Eleme.”
He warned those engaged in cultism, kidnapping, robbery and other socio-economic vices, to vacate Eleme for their own good; advising them to also embrace the state government’s amnesty program of Governor Wike.
