Wike vows to leave development tracks in all LGAs
Development projects would be taken to all the 23 local council areas of Rivers State, according to Governor Nyesom Wike, as part of his vision to recreate the state.
This is as the leadership of the state has expressed satisfaction with the judiciously applying scarce resources for the development of the state.
Addressing journalists after leading selected leaders of Rivers State on an inspection of projects on Saturday, August 13, Wike said despite the financial downturn, he would deliberately ensure the spread of development projects.
The governor said: “I have led the leaders on this project tour so that they can appreciate what we are doing with scarce resources available to the state. The leaders are happy with what we are doing and we are quite satisfied. We give God the glory for giving us the wisdom to manage with the scarce resources. We shore up the little we get from the Federation Account with our little Internally Generated Revenue to ensure that we pay salaries and sustain the execution of development projects.”
He said the successful biometric exercise had reduced the wage bill of the state, making more resources available for development. He did not state how much more has been saved after the initial N1 billion per month.
Governor Wike added: “Our resolve is that God willing, we will make our impact felt in all the 23 local government areas of the state.”
In an interview after the project tour, former acting national chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, stated that Governor Wike was building for the future with his selection of projects.
He said: “Governor Wike has come up with a vision to build a new Rivers State and he is achieving the dream of the people.”
In his remarks, the senator, George Sekibo, said the vision of the state governor was not ordinary, as it has transformed the landscape of the state.
Member of the House of Representatives, Ken Chinda said: “I have seen somebody who is a governor with a difference. He is a governor who is doing more with fewer resources. As a Rivers man, I am happy that God has given us a visionary leader.”
